It was so good to meet some parents that came to our 5th Grade Parent Orientation today! You had great questions for us! Please do not hesitate to contact me as you have further questions.
I will explain that while I am doing guided reading with most students, and book clubs with others, your student is still responsible for reading and doing some grade-level work in class. This work is being done at their seats while I meet with groups. As far as testing goes, while your student is receiving some instruction on their reading level, they are also going to be tested on grade level. The report card and progress reports will reflect this.
To incorporate some informational reading texts, we have been reading and learning about the brain and its parts this week. Today many of the students took an online quiz to see if their brains are more left dominant or right dominant. This will help as your child and I explore what kind of learner they are at the beginning of this year. It's fascinating stuff!
This week students will be having a Language quiz on Thursday over subjects and predicates. I will be sending home a study aid tomorrow night. Click the link below for a game we are playing in class to practice! (You must have flash player to play!)
Students will also have a quiz on Friday over the brain. I will be sending home some material on that as well.
